“KEL Healthcare Medical Services is outstanding, and I have to give a huge shoutout to Lucinda at the front desk. From the moment I walked in, she made me feel welcome, comfortable, and taken care of. She's not only professional and kind, she genuinely cares.”

Challenge
Clinicians tend to think of the visit as starting in the exam room. Patients don't. They start forming opinions at check-in, and those opinions have consequences.
Solution
KEL Healthcare Medical Services builds its patient journey around a simple idea: you should always know what happens next. The first step is scheduling, where the team confirms your insurance in advance and explains costs up front so paperwork doesn't delay care. Billing and insurance questions are a common source of patient frustration, and KEL tackles them before the visit.

Mel Yates identified Lucinda as the front-desk team member who made her feel "welcome, comfortable, and taken care of." She's not alone. Lucinda is named in three patient reviews on KEL's site, including Marisol Mena's note that "the staff is amazing especially Lucinda & Ciera," and Alexander Paucar's thanks to Lucinda, Sumalkumr and Jordi. KEL's owner also mentioned her in a reply to another review.
Patients judge the practice at the front desk
In a survey of about 2,000 patients reported by TechTarget, 67 percent said staff friendliness is an important factor when picking a provider, and about one in three had switched providers after an unpleasant encounter with office staff. Nearly three in four (73 percent) said they keep a mental checklist of what they like and dislike about their doctor's office.

An NRC Health survey points to a gap inside many practices. In NRC Health's analysis of patient comments, 87 percent praised clinicians' courtesy and respect, yet 67 percent said administrative and support staff didn't show enough respect. The same survey found that 80 percent of patients would switch providers for convenience alone.

For a clinician, that's a real problem. Excellent medical care can be undone by a rough first five minutes, and the patient may never come back to find out how good the care was.
A front desk that's treated as part of the care team
Access matters as well. KEL offers same-week primary care appointments and welcomes walk-ins at all four clinics, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The tone carries through the visit, too. Reviews describe a professional, clean environment and staff who "listen and are very willing to help you," which suggests the welcome at the desk isn't a one-off.

Those reviews sit among more than 486 behind KEL's 4.9 out of 5 Google rating. KEL's owner replied to Mel's review within two days.
A clinician's take on the first five minutes
A patient who arrives anxious, rushed or unsure can be hard to help. A patient who's been greeted warmly and told what to expect is usually easier to talk with, more open about their history and more likely to ask questions. None of that appears on a lab report, but clinicians notice it in the room.
That's why KEL's providers can treat the front desk as a partner. When the team handles the welcome, the coverage questions and the logistics well, clinicians get to spend their time on the medicine.
Patients also remember who made them feel at ease. When Mel wrote a review naming one person, she was telling future patients exactly what to expect.
What patients can take from this
When you're choosing a practice, pay attention to how it treats you before you see a clinician. How does the team greet you? Do they explain what happens next? Do they talk about coverage openly? Those small signals usually say a lot about the care that follows.
